This specimen is a fine example of lavender amethyst from the Valencia Mine (Mina La Valenciana) in Guanajuato, Mexico.
Characteristics of Valencia Mine Amethyst
Amethyst from this specific locality is distinct from the more common Veracruz or Guerrero varieties found elsewhere in Mexico.
Appearance: These clusters are known for their soft lilac to deep violet color and excellent vitreous (glassy) luster. The crystals often form dense, shimmering "frosty" needle points.
Matrix & Associations: It is very common for these specimens to be adorned with small rhombs of white calcite. The massive quartz matrix often displays characteristic purple banding.
Rarity: While Guanajuato is famous for its silver and gold mines, amethyst specimens from the Valencia Mine are considered relatively rare compared to other Mexican deposits.
