Polished Amethyst cluster, which is a variety of quartz with agate. The purple color comes from natural irradiation of iron impurities. Amethyst often forms in hexagonal crystals and is known for its glassy luster. The specimen in the picture appears to be a "cactus" or "spirit" quartz, which is characterized by a second generation of smaller crystals grown on the faces of the larger crystals. The sides to this piece have been polished.
